Holiday Meal
Rich, wealthy, affluent, well off, prosperous, well healed, in the upper crust, thriving, solvent, fortunate, advantaged…..I bet you’re thinking I’m on about BMCY&F having it’s ship come in, got a huge endowment, a flush supporter just wrote us the last check we’ll ever need. Not quite. What we do have that fits that top list is; A community of people that make us affluent in hope. A group of young people who make us well off in potential. Staff that makes it possible for us to thrive. A board solvent in resolve. Brewing these things together shapes a richness of creativity that puts us in the upper crust of what can be accomplished. The affirmation of these glowing sentiments is another more than successful event in our “Holiday Meal”. A somewhat extra normal Thursday dinner at the youth center. My guess is over 100 people of all ages in attendance. strolling minstrel, impromptu music groups, organized caroling from our girls and Nedra, drumming and story telling, and the food…wonderful food. Gloria, Juanita and board members, some working all day others filling in where needed. John helping to make the place look cleaned and cared for. And our ever growing community of supporters, advocates and friends, in conversation, making the center a home to solutions and acceptance. Thanks once again to Catherine, ever tireless along with Peggy making these events what they are! An all around resounding success.
I want to add that on the day before Thanksgiving, in collaboration with the Calaveras Food Bank there was a huge turkey dinner hand out at the center. Over 130 turkeys with all the trimmings were given out by a host of volunteers to qualified and deserving recipients. This community service was well organized and attended even with all the snow to deal with. Thank you BMCY&F, Calaveras Food Bank and all the hard working volunteers!
