Vision
The Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families envisions a vibrant, peaceful, healthy community where everyone is nurtured, supported and inspired.
Mission
To support all members of our community with a healthy environment and positive activities.
History
The Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families was founded in 1995 by local parents concerned about the lack of positive youth activities in this isolated area. For several years, the “Youth Center” rented small buildings around West Point. In 2000, a grant from the California Youth Authority enabled BMCYF to purchase the old hardware store at 364 Main Street and expand it into a 3000 square foot community building. Thanks to the tireless determination of parents and community volunteers, our organization has evolved from a drop-in teen center using a small rented space, to an established 501c3 which owns and operates a large community center on Main Street and the West Point Community Garden on Spink Road.
What We Do
Inclusion is at the heart of the Blue Mountain Center. We believe that our organization, our work, and all of our lives are made richer by diversity. We welcome everyone at our community center and all of our activities are free or donation based. It is our policy to create a safe space where every person and every family is treated with respect and kindness. Every person and family, regardless of their challenges, have assets to share and lessons to teach.
Blue Mountain Center
Our Blue Mountain Community Center is a hub for our rural community, offering activities and services for kids, seniors and families. Our 3000 square foot center has a fully-stocked art area, a large children’s play space, kitchen, communal living and dining area, music space and more.
The family table is at the center of many things at the BMCYF; we serve nutritious, home-cooked dinners two nights per week, which are free and open to everyone. Just as important as the physical nutrition provided by these congregate meals, are the benefits garnered from time spent around the table together. In sharing a meal, people of all ages and experience have the chance to make meaningful connections which prove to increase the overall health and well-being of a community.
West Point Community Garden
The land at 174 Spink Road was originally gifted by Beth Childs and Genna Hurst to the town with the hopes of created a Community Garden. The Revive and Relief group began work on that dream and then handed the reins to the Blue Mountain Coalition.
Today, our two-acre garden includes twenty large raised beds, flower gardens, a rammed earth greenhouse, gazebo, a full-size bocce ball court, fruit trees, a spruce grove, and a community gathering space. The garden is cared for by dedicated volunteers and the produce is used in our free community dinners and shared with volunteers and families.
Volunteers are invited to meet at the garden every Friday morning at 9am. Please sign up to join our volunteer team!
