Our History

Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families has deep roots and strong ties in Calaveras County.  In our 30 years of service, the Blue Mountain Coalition has worked intimately with three generations of families through all types of challenges.

The Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families was founded in 1994 by local parents concerned about the lack of positive youth activities in this isolated area.

For several years, the “Youth Center” rented small buildings around West Point.  In 2000, a grant from the California Youth Authority enabled BMCYF to purchase the old hardware store at 364 Main Street and expand it into a 3000 square foot community building.  Thanks to the tireless determination of parents and community volunteers, our organization has evolved from a drop-in teen center using a small rented space, to an established 501c3 which owns and operates a large community center on Main Street and the West Point Community Garden on Spink Road.
